You are here: Support / Help Docs / PC Theater PC Theater Help Documents Wide-screen and Letterbox Modes: Many DVDs come with preset modes like wide-screen or letterbox. Wide-screen means the movie will be wider than it is taller (this looks more like a movie theater screen). Letterbox: Letterbox has a black box on top of the screen and one on
the bottom. With letterboxing this is no longer the case. "Letterboxing" is a video technique where the film is transferred to video in such a way that no film image is cut off to the left or the right. The advantage of this technique is that the film images are shown as originally intended by the film's director and does not interfere with their shot composition. However, if you’re viewing this technique on a computer monitor or TV, it can sometimes make the movie appear smaller because the entire image must be shrunk to fit in letterbox format.
