Select Files to Shred

Select Files to Shred

Simply deleting your files and folders is NOT ENOUGH! Easy to use recovery programs make it possible for anyone to “Un-Delete” and view your files.

Think emptying your Recycling Bin will remove a file or a folder?
Emptying your recycling bin is bit like playing hide-and-seek. It makes it appear as if the file is gone, but in reality the file is just hiding somewhere else on your PC. And by running a simple recovery or un-delete program, it can be easily found and viewed!

Don’t play games with your sensitive files.
Think of all the sensitive files you may have on your PC:

  • Business plans
  • Corporate Trade Secrets
  • Personal Letters
  • Financial Documents
  • And more
  • Permanently Shred Files and Folders
PC Confidential's powerful file shredding meets the Clear and Sanitize Matrix requirements of the Department of Defense standard DoD 5220.22-M, the "National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual", making it one of the best shredding tools available.

To shred your files, simply open PC Confidential:
Press button labeled Select Files to Shred (on the left hand side of the screen)

    To shred a file:
    1. Choose Select Files
    2. Locate the file you’d like to shred and click on it
    3. Then press Open
    4. Your file will be added to the main screen

    To shred a folder:
    1. Choose Select Folders
    2. Locate the folder you’d like to shred and click on it
    3. Then press Open
    4. Your folder will be added to the main screen

While adding Files and Folders you can sort them by “Folder, Type or List” by clicking on the link on the right side of the screen. You can also remove items by clicking on the “Remove Selected Items from List” link.

When shredding you can select the “Shred Method” from a drop-down method. This indicates the number of times the files is over-written and determines the level of security used in permanently shredding the file. The more times a file is overwritten the more difficult it would be to reconstruct it. However, overwriting a file multiple times will take longer.

The other option on the screen is the checkbox to “Bleach Free Space”. This option will take the files that are currently designated as free space on your computer and shred them so that they cannot be retrieved. This way you can shred previously deleted files so they can no longer be recovered.

Once you have determined which files and or folders you would like to shred, press Shred Now and your files and folders will be destroyed.

To remove a file or folder:
Simply highlight the file or files you’d like to remove and click on the link (Remove Selected Items from List).

NOTE: You can add more than one file or folder to the main box on the shred screen, thus making it possible to shred multiple files and folders in one operation.

    Stop:
If you’d like to stop the shredding process, simply press Stop.

    My Results:

After you press Shred Now, you’ll notice a list in the My Results section. This is a list of everything that is being shredded (in this case, the results could include files and folders). Once the shredding is complete, you will also see a total number of shredded results.
