You are here: Support / Help Docs / PC Confidential 2008 PC Confidential 2008 Help Documents Delete My Temporary Files Delete Windows Temporary Files Every time you surf the Internet, your computer is quietly storing files full of information about you. One type of file that your computer keeps is called a temporary Internet file which could be a graphic, a web page, a cookie, a video file, etc. These files are stored so that the next time you visit the web site associated with that temporary Internet file, the page will load faster. This may seem like a good thing, but think about your temporary Internet files from a different point of view. Imagine someone else sitting down to your computer and opening up all of your temporary Internet files. This person would be able to see everything you had seen in your recent Internet sessions. They would see pictures, video, text and more just as you had seen it. It would be as if they had been standing over your shoulder the whole time. Would you feel comfortable with someone watching you when you surf the Internet? You may think its easy to just delete temporary Internet files or that getting rid of these files is just a matter of deleting a few directories on your C drive, but this is not the case. Windows stores these files deep in your hard drive in places that are very difficult to get to, such as the index.dat file. You could separately delete your temporary files, but a record of them would still exist in your index.dat file. But the worst part is, because of the way Windows is designed; this file cannot be manually deleted. To thoroughly delete temporary Internet files, you need an expert. PC Confidential has powerful tools to locate your temporary files and can be set to automatically delete them, including the index.dat file. Simply open PC Confidential and:1. Press button labeled Delete My Temporary Files (on the left hand side of the screen) 2. Then check the box marked Scan Windows Temporary Files 3. Press Scan Now 4. Once your Temporary Files scan is complete, a Privacy Report will appear with your results. 5. To delete, press Delete All Stop: If you’d like to stop scanning your Temporary Files selections, simply press Stop. After you press Scan Now, you’ll notice a scrolling list in the My Results section. This is a list of everything that is being scanned (in this case, the results could include recent documents list, Windows temporary files, Recycle Bin contents, file search history and Windows Explorer History). Once the scan is complete, you will also see a total number of scanned results. Would you like to automatically delete your Temporary Files? | |
