Classify Sites

PC Confidential and Security Categories

Security Categories are simple a way to classify websites into three security zones – Trusted Sites (Browser Security: Low), Unclassified Sites (Browser Security: Medium) and Restricted Sites (Browser Security: High). Each category has limits on what it will allow a website to do.

Security Categories
Trusted Sites (Browser Security: Low)
This category is for sites that you trust (such as your bank) and feel comfortable allowing security privileges such as ActiveX, Cookies and Java.

Internet Unclassified Sites (Browser Security: Medium)
This category is for sites that you do not know whether to trust or not. Such sites will be allowed limited ActiveX, Cookies, Java and other capabilities.

Restricted Sites (Browser Security: High)
This category is for sites that you DO NOT TRUST. Your PC and personal information will be better protected from access by these sites as ActiveX, Cookies, Java, and File Downloads, are strictly restricted.

Delete Private Information based on Internet Security Categories
PC Confidential realizes that while clearing private information is important, there is some information that you'd like to keep (for example, the files that remember your automatic logins). To remedy this, PC Confidential uses Security classifications to selectively clear sensitive private information (Browser Cache, History, and Cookies) while retaining Trusted cookies for automatic logins to Trusted Sites.

Most websites use technologies such as Java, ActiveX, and Cookies to improve the functionality of the website (such as remembering your login name). However, less scrupulous websites can use Java, ActiveX, cookies and file downloads to install software and monitor what you do with your computer.

Based on how much you trust a particular website, you may want to restrict Java, ActiveX, and Cookies capabilities by setting the website to Restricted Sites (Browser Security: High).

PC Confidential allows you to selectively Erase Browser History, Erase Browser Cache and Erase Browser Cookies for:

  • All Sites
  • All except Trusted Sites (Browser Security: Low)
  • Restricted Sites only (Browser Security: High)
