Video Format Definitions:
MP4
MP4 is an iPod compatible format. Converting your videos to this format allows
you to upload them to your iPod and watch them on the go! The MP4 format delivers
DVD-quality video in much smaller file sizes.
AVI
is an acronym for Audio Video Interleave. This is an integrated audio/video
file format, which allows various levels of compression.
The Raw Video designation means that the video portion of the file is completely
uncompressed.
MPEG
(Motion Picture Experts Group) is a standards organization, which develops
digital reproduction format standards. .MPG is the file extension commonly
used to identify video compressed with one of the MPEG standards.
BabelVideo supports MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-3 and MPEG-4.
WMV
is a Windows proprietary compression format (Windows Media - Video)
MOV
is a file compression format for Apple QuickTime (currently based on the
MPEG 4 standard)
FLV
(Flash Video) is a Macromedia video format for streaming web video content
and requires a macromedia plug-in for playing
SWF
(Shockwave File) is a media file format for streaming Internet content and
requires a shockwave plug- in.
VCD
(Video Compact Disk) is a compression standard using MPEG1 to enable
writing of up to 74 minutes of Video on a CD at close to VHS quality.
SVCD
(Super VCD) uses the MPEG2 standard to produce up to 60 minutes of
Laser Disc quality video on a CD.
DVD
(Digital Video Disc or Digital Versatile Disc or Digital Video Data)
uses the MPEG2 standard and Enhanced Audio (AC3 or Dolby Digital) to produce
home theater quality feature length movies (up to 4 hours)
QT
is an Apple/QuickTime video format using the Sorenson1 Video codec
