   Internet Explorer and Research-Desk

 State-of-the-Art Web Page Rendering Engine

Research-Desk uses the same state-of the-art web page rendering engine (Microsoft's MSHTML.DLL and SHDOCVW.DLL) as Microsoft's Internet Explorer, Microsoft Money, Microsoft Office, AOL's Web Browser, and other applications. This component is included with Microsoft Windows 98 and newer systems and is automatically updated by selecting "Windows Update" from the "Start" menu on such systems, or by installing a new version of any of the aforementioned applications.

A Superset of Features: All the Features of Internet Explorer + Lots More

Because, Research-Desk uses the same web page display and rendering technology as Microsoft Internet Explorer, and because we have made significant efforts to incorporate all of the features users expect from Internet Explorer, Research-Desk's web browsing features are a superset of Internet Explorers'.

All of Microsoft Internet Explorer's popular features are available in Research-Desk:

  • AutoComplete in the Address Bar based on URL History
  • AutoFill Web Forms
  • Address Bar URL History
  • Favorites Menu with Add and Organize Favorites features
  • Custom Favorite menu icons
  • History and Favorites Explorer Bars
  • Privacy and Security Features including Internet Zones

Easily Switch Between Internet Explorer and Research-Desk

Research-Desk shares its Favorites, cache, cookies, password lists, and URL history files and formats with Internet Explorer. This eliminates any migration hassles. For example, a new favorite website added in Internet Explorer also shows up in Research-Desk. A new web page form entry made in Research-Desk also appears in Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer 6 and Cookie Management

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 features new cookie management features. Because Research-Desk uses the same technology, Research-Desk's browser is automatically updated with the same new features when Internet Explorer 6 is installed or by selecting "Windows Update" from the "Start" menu. You can directly access the new cookie management features from Research-Desk (after Windows is updated or Internet Explorer 6 is installed) by selecting Research-Desk Tools, Options, Internet Options, Show Internet Options from Research-Desk's menus. You can then customize cookie and other privacy settings from Internet Options dialog.
