Microsoft recently released their Service Pack 2 (SP2)
update. Below is a brief overview of new features, what still needs to be
improved, as well as cost implications.
Overview: The two biggest changes found in Windows Service Pack 2
are a pop-up blocking feature and a Manage Add-Ons screen, both of which are located
in the Tools menu. Our testers have found that the Pop-Up Blocker works fairly
well and was able to block a fair amount of pop-ups. The Manage Add-Ons screen
displays all the browser helper objects attached to Internet Explorer, and lets you disable
them.
Windows has also addressed some security issues with this latest
feature.
What still needs to be improved: While this new update is definately an improvement there's still a lot of
work that needs to be done to renovate browser security and to better protect us from
tomorrow's wave of hackers.
Here's what we would like to see:
Better ActiveX controls
Easier access to security zones
More privacy controls
Automatic tune-ups
Tighter regulation over what
websites can do to you
What to know before downloading and installing SP2...
